LISBON CARPENTRY NETWORK

Virtual Platform | since 2013

Carpentries are disappearing from the historic center of Lisbon and with that a specialized technical knowledge will be lost. The difficulty of licensing small industries in the center of the city and the consequent exit of the woodwork to the suburbs, where they gained scale and industrialized results in their extinction as proximity shops. These carpentries managed by master-carpenters, are rooted in the territory and respond to local needs such as repairs, replacements and maintenance of constructive elements, fundamental for the rehabilitation and preservation of city's identity.
The LISBON CARPENTRY NETWORK [RCL] wants to rehabilitate the culture of local carpentries as an entrepreneurial drive, rescuing a technical knowledge, giving visibility to a dynamic network that crossing different audiences and practices. Valuing carpentry and joinery as part of the city's programming by ensuring the quality and sustainability of rehabilitation and regeneration, through arts and crafts.
