MASTERPLAN MAIA

MAM’19
MÊS DA ARQUITETURA DA MAIA - FAST FORWARD
1.03.2019 - 31.03.2019

Artéria was invited to participate in the exhibition MAM’19 - Fast Forward, integrated in the second edition of Maia Architecture Month, with a preview of the future, Maia 100 years from now.

Saturated with promises for the future, the Masterplan has become an unquestioned dogma of the XXI century urban planning, offering answers to urban problems through top down planning. Nevertheless, recent urban development proves these processes are insufficient and new directions emerge in the form of bottom-up methodologies. Participatory, collaborative, empowering, are beginning to emerge in the contemporary urban planning discourse.

Masterplan Maia is an experiment to imagine a city as diverse as the lives of its inhabitants, with potential to influence how citizens involves, perceives, inhabits and, by extension, shapes their city. A roll and move planning tool, where each player, by using their skills in dice rolling, contribute to the collective destiny while developing social and territorial cohesion.

From the Right to the City by Lefebvre, Non-Plan by Cedric Price and the Polycentric City from Saskia Sassen, we launched a general rehearsal to shape the collective dimension of the city of Maia. With a planning tool for the XXII century, aiming to activate citizenship, we invited the Maians to participate.
